New Executive Director for Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust
At a time when the need for affordable housing is at an all time high the Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust (BNT) has announced the appointment of Elizabeth Torres as its new Executive Director. BNT Chairman Michael Grace says Torres will be responsible for expanding BNT’s capacity to develop more affordable housing units and continuing in BNTs tradition of providing quality homeownership counseling. BNT also administers a major two-million dollar federal lead abatement program in Bridgeport called Lead Elimination Action Program which includes leveraging private financing, education, training, and remediation.
Grace says Torres was promoted from within because “…of her dedication to our mission and her experience and capabilities in the field of affordable housing and community service.” Torres is now the primary liaison to private and public funding sources, financial institutions, community organizations, and the media. Ms. Torres said recently, “I look forward to this wonderful opportunity to lead Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust and work with our talented staff to manage our programs.” Torres has been with BNT for almost 4 years and previously worked for The Community Builders as a project manager. Torres is also a board member of the New Haven Board of Education and serves as the Treasurer for Casa Otoñal, Inc..
Chairman Grace credited outgoing BNT leader Ann C. Robinson for her 13 years of exemplary service.
Since BNT opened its doors 23 years the organization’s mission has evolved to focus more on providing affordable housing opportunities for low-income families. Today BNT’s services include; affordable housing development, creating healthy homes through two lead hazard control grants, and comprehensive homeownership counseling.
