Lead safe properties in Bridgeport
Since 2004 Bridgeport Neighborhood Trust, Inc. has been the construction manager for the City of Bridgeport Lead Free Families Program. In three years, BNT managed over $2 million of funding to make 275 units lead-safe in over 130 properties scattered throughout the city. BNT’s role included developing protocols and procedures to implement the goals outlined in HUD’s workplan, conducting risk assessments, developing specifications, pre-qualifying lead abatement contractors, managing bidding, negotiating contracts, and monitoring construction.
Based on the program’s success, and Bridgeport’s continued need for lead-hazard control, HUD awarded the City another $3 million grant in 2007. The new funds are helping make an additional 210 units lead-safe.
Every parent wants to protect their child from danger, but often the greatest threats to healthy development are invisible to the naked eye. That’s why getting your home tested for lead and other hazardous material is so essential.
If your family meets some basic eligibility requirements, BNT can finance the removal of lead paint from your home. We’ll help cover window replacements and repairs to doors and other exterior surfaces so that you can rest easy, knowing your child is living in a lead-safe home.
Each eligible property receives a lead based paint inspection and risk assessment. An abatement planner will then create a scope of work with specifications for the contractor to follow. Approved certified lead abatement contractors will bid on the project and a contractor will be selected to perform the lead abatement or remediation work. Upon completion, a final dust wipe test will provide the official “clearance” - an assurance that your home is now truly lead safe.
If you are a property owner or tenant and would like to have your home tested for lead paint, please contact Sabine Kuczo, BLFF Program Manager (203) 576-8220 or email: Sabine.Kuczo@Bridgeportct.gov.

Throughout Bridgeport, BNT has been busy working to make homes healthier through lead abatement and remediation. The list below represents over 400 apartments and houses that BNT has helped make lead safe; over 400 homes where Bridgeport parents and children no longer have to worry about the dangers of lead poisoning. While this list is by no means a comprehensive record of all lead-free homes in Bridgeport, we hope that it may be of assistance to families who are searching for a healthy home for their little one.
