Bridgeport, CT – Building Neighborhoods Together (BNT) recently received a $25,000 grant from Fairfield County’s Community Foundation (FCCF) to support its operating costs and program growth. FCCF has provided grants to BNT in nine of the past ten years, dating back to 2015.
This flexible funding supported the hiring of a Director of Affordable Housing Development to rebuild BNT’s housing pipeline in Bridgeport and nearby towns. It also helped expand BNT’s Youth Financial Literacy Program, which serves middle and high school students and supports the implementation of Connecticut’s new financial literacy standard, requiring every graduating senior to complete a financial literacy course beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.
“This type of unrestricted support is critical,” said Doris Latorre, CEO of BNT. “It gives us the flexibility to invest in long-term solutions, respond to community needs as they arise, and continue building capacity where it’s needed most.”
Founded in 1986, BNT has helped more than 5,000 individuals and families across Fairfield County achieve housing stability, avoid foreclosure, improve credit, and purchase their first homes.
Fairfield County’s Community Foundation promotes philanthropy as a means to create change in Fairfield County, focusing on innovative and collaborative solutions to critical issues impacting the community. Individuals, families, corporations and organizations can establish charitable funds or contribute to existing funds. The Community Foundation is in compliance with the Council on Foundations’ national standards, and has awarded $180 million in grants to nonprofits in Fairfield County and beyond.
