Real Estate Development

BNT is a leading nonprofit developer of affordable housing in Fairfield County and Connecticut. Over the past 15 years, BNT has invested over $45 million in affordable housing, creating more than 230 units for seniors, veterans, young mothers, and foster youth, many earning less than 30% of the HUD Area Median Income.

In 2022, BNT shifted from property management to a focus on affordable housing development. By 2024, BNT had reduced its assets to several million dollars, generating funds for new pre-development projects. Through an unbiased process, BNT hired Chip Parrish (pictured above), its former board president and a 27-year real estate veteran, to lead this business.

Our strategy centers on:

  1. Expanding Homeownership Opportunities: Developing new small-business, landlord-owner-occupied multifamily units, offering both affordable rentals and first-time homeownership. Our free financial and housing programming supports both landlords and renters with financial coaching, ensuring sustainability.
  2. Building In-House Expertise: Chip’s leadership enhances BNT’s capacity to oversee projects, ensure accountability, and reduce reliance on consultants.
  3. Diversifying Funding Sources: We are expanding philanthropic partnerships to complement traditional government funding.

To date, BNT has developed 250 housing units, provided homes to 450 families, and continues to address the affordable housing shortage in Connecticut.
